Bohemian Dream

It’s no secret that we go ga-ga over a nursery interior around here, and the Boho trend - with its earthy tones and timeless appeal - is certainly no exception to that.

We’ve teamed up with the lovely folk over at CuddleCo to bring you this simple style guide that will enable you to create a serene space for a new arrival, or add a fresh update to an existing look, with minimal effort.

Read on to get the lowdown on how to transform your nursery set up into a swoon-worthy sanctuary for little dreamers.

Decorate your Space

Taking its inspiration from nature, this key trend is perfect for creating stunning gender-neutral spaces - with a timeless look that won’t date.

Combining soft textures and warm earthy tones, it’s the perfect backdrop to create a calm and relaxing environment for a precious little one.

Starting with the walls, warm whites are perfect for creating a soft ambient feel. There are so many paint colours and brands to choose from that it can easily become overwhelming, so we would advise sticking to neutrals such as Farrow & Ball’s All White which is a good all-rounder. If you prefer a little more colour, opt for a muted beige or soft blush palette or even textured wallpaper in similar tones.

Statement Pieces

CuddleCo have done all the hard work and designed the ultimate nursery furniture range to perfectly complement this beautiful trend. The Aria Collection will transform any room with its curation of elegant furniture pieces and accessories, crafted from hand-made rattan.

For instant Boho-Chic, the Aria Rattan Crib, with its beautiful, intricate design makes it the focal point of the nursery. Designed to be super lightweight, it is easy to move around the house to accommodate nap times too.

What’s more, it comes with a supportive breathable foam mattress plus a crib liner with anti-microbial properties that provides your baby with a clean, germ-free sleep environment. The mattress and liner also feature a quilted fabric made with ultra-soft bamboo fibers, which help promote airflow and regulate temperature.

Once you have your crib sorted, you can then start to add in other key furniture pieces, depending on how much space you have to work with. You can shop the whole Aria Collection online, which includes a stunning Clothing Rail and Changing table, both of which are designed to take up minimal space but offer maximum storage potential with added wow factor.

Finishing Touches

Next on the list, it’s time to style up your space by adding those all important finishing touches. This is definitely one of our favourite parts of the process, thanks to its ability to bring a room together and really make the theme pop.

The trick here is to keep it minimal, choosing statement pieces to really make an impact. Try adding an oversized vase filled with soft, billowy pampas grass and a soft textured rug to create a luxurious feel and help anchor those smaller pieces. You can shop our extensive rug collection, bursting with handwoven beauties as well as some stunning washable floor coverings too.

Add a mirror, like the Aria Rattan Round Mirror and co-ordinate with the Aria Lamp Shade for a cohesive, put together look. Or choose a similar version in natural materials– ensuring it follows the same theme.

If you opted for a clothing rail, dress this with a few choice outfits in tonal colours, hang them on rattan or natural wood hangers and finish off with a pair of baby shoes for extra cuteness.

Last but not least, a character soft toy or cushion dotted around the room will add a cosy, playful element to the surroundings. Finish off with some lidded woven storage containers to house those all-important baby essentials such as nappies, cotton wool balls and muslin cloths.

Thanks for stopping by. We hope you enjoyed this little read and enjoy creating your dream nursery set up.

For more inspiration, you can shop the full collection to your heart's content and, you can shop  more of our gorgeous interiors collections too. From space theme, to gender neutral spaces and more.

Welcome to the Jungle

Answer the call of the wild with a safari or jungle themed children's interior. This ever popular trend is here to stay - providing the perfect backdrop for little explorers and nature lovers to rest and play.

Read on and discover how to create a child friendly space that's bursting with fun, animal motifs and natural textures, for guaranteed playtime adventures.

A jungle or safari theme should be a feast for the senses - in a good way. Be brave and go wild with a bold colour palette.

Safari Themed Kids Room

This stunning setup does just that, transporting you straight to the heart of the African Savannah.

Nature Calling

It’s safe to say that when it comes to choosing paint, it really is a bit of a jungle out there.

If you follow our posts you’ll know that paint is a hot topic around here. Afterall, it’s the starting point of any interior makeover, so it’s vital you make the right choice.

Our mantra is to keep it simple. For this theme, we’d recommend picking one colour for the walls. Consider greens, browns, oranges or yellows as a good starting point.

For inspiration, check out Lick Paint. This fun brand has an extensive array of colours to choose from and is a great mid range option, without blowing the budget. Order their tester pots and try them out on the wall near natural light to get the best idea for what you like.

Farrow & Ball are another excellent choice, though not quite as kind on the purse strings, the quality can’t be underestimated and the finish is supreme. Plus, all of their paints are produced using eco-friendly formulas, for that added peace of mind. You can read more about their sustainable practices

Introducing an accent wall is a simple hack that works really well.  Alternatively why not try this clever idea by Pretty in Print. The scalloping detail works well and is oh so dreamy. It’s easy to achieve too. Believe it or not, drawing them on the wall using the top of a cereal bowl will do the trick nicely.

How about nurturing your artistic side and creating a mural using some fun wall stickers? Mess free and reusable, they are super effective, easy to apply and you really don’t need to be a Picasso to give it a go. Take a peek at these stunning safari themed stickers from Ducks in a Row, or how about this showstopper scene from Pastelowe Love.

On Safari

If you’re thinking of adding new furniture pieces, then what could be more fitting than these uber chic lockers from Mustard Made. Available in a variety of sizes and colours, they make a stunning addition as well as providing plenty of practical storage space for clothing, books and treasures.

If you're really going for it, words simply cannot describe this impressive treehouse bed -  the perfect set up for adventure, it's the stuff childhood dreams are made of. A true investment piece, it features  2 beds, a hideout and a slide to whizz out of bed each morning!

Adding shelving in natural materials such as bamboo and cane will elevate this look further. Then as a final flourish, decorate with cute wooden animals.  We love these sweet animal pals from Tender Leaf Toys.

If storage is your bag, you can’t go wrong with a woven basket. Lightweight, transportable and just the ticket for housing little bits and bobs.  These gems from small UK brand Bella Bambino are a delight and you can even choose from some amazing animal characters like this happy looking lion. What a handsome guy.

And how about this sweet bedding set from cute brand Kabode . The adorable animal print adds a pop of colour and makes for the sweetest of dreams.

Let them get amongst nature with some lovely soft furnishings to finish off the look. Accent cushions and textured rugs add warmth and a cosy feel to any space. Think animal faces mixed with a sprinkling of velvet in earthy tones. Take a peek at these beauties, that bring allll the fun.

Hello there washable rugs. We’ve sung their praises before and yes, they really are a thing. We can vouch for these beauties by Lorena Canals. They are sure to give any room a touch of ‘Rainforest chic’. Totally machine washable and super soft to boot. The perfect addition to a kids room because, well let's face it, kids can be messy can’t they.

Born to be wild

Roarsome wall prints add an element of fun, instantly whisking you away to a jungle paradise. Check out the full collection. From Lions to Crocs, there's so many gorgeous designs to choose from.  If you can’t decide, hang your faves together for a real statement.

Wall rugs are another way to add interest and texture to wall spaces, and just look at these amazing wall mounted animal heads from Childhome - transforming explorers straight into the heart of the African wilds.

The Great Outdoors

Play tents are a great way to add interest to a room and this one from Nobodinoz gives us all the jungle feels - happy campers are sure to love it. They also make a handy reading corner for those quieter moments or for when you just need to take 5 too!

For a final flourish, throw in some soft toys - these make a fantastic accessory as well as a loveable friend to snuggle at bedtime. If it's a statement piece you're after, Childhome have really nailed it with their iconic free standing stuffed giraffe. There's an amazing, elegant elephant version too.

And there you have it. We hope you’re feeling inspired and ready to transform your little wildlings room. You can shop the full collection to your heart's content.

Magic Carpets

Rugs are having a fashion moment. The Scandinavian trend for layering and creating a cosy space, full of natural textures, has rebirthed a whole new era of floor coverings to adorn interior spaces.

From living rooms to kids rooms, bedrooms, kitchens, hallways and beyond. There is a rug out there to suit your style and decor.

My living room rug had definitely had its day and it was time to find a new friend to furnish my (very white) floor.

I retired my previous rug as it was made of wool and though lovely at first, it was clear we were on a long road to nowhere - totally impractical. I know this for sure because on its maiden voyage, it was grandly rolled out only for it to have an entire cup of tea promptly spilled over it. And, because I couldn’t wash it, we haven’t really gotten along since. True story.

On my quest to road test a new found friend, I was drawn to the designs of gorgeous interiors brand, Lorena Canals. Even better, their eco-friendly ethos champions natural materials, ethical manufacturing and zero waste. Thumbs up.

Scrub a dub

images of rugs

These stunners are a total work of art. Embroidered, embellished, tasseled beauties. The type of rug that you put down and instantly feel yourself subconsciously stepping over, because it can’t be washed right?  So, the risk of a potential hazard is a complete no no. Which, really, defies the whole point of creating a ‘living space’.

Drumroll...behold the world of washable rugs. Not an entirely new concept, I’ll admit. But then, these aren’t just any old rugs.

Totally machine washable, they are quick dry too. Handcrafted from 100% cotton, using non toxic dyes, the fact that it fits in my standard load washing machine is no less than Impressive. Fear of shrinkage is now, thankfully, a thing of the past too. As is banning my dog to the confines of her, rather luxurious, dog bed. She much prefers the rug, as you can see.

dog sat on rug

Also, these beauties really look the part. They are all the things you would have on a rug wish list. Plush, thick, and they stay put. My top tip is to pop down an underlay gripper first, particularly if, like me, you have hardwood floors. You can pick up a roll for next to nothing at good old Ikea and simply cut it to your desired size. Easy.

Super lightweight too, I was surprised at the thickness once laid out and the pile has a lovely, natural texture that’s super soft to the touch. But my favourite feature by far, has to be those aforementioned tassels. It brings an element of bohemian chic, which is just the vibe I was going for.

I went for the Azteca in Vintage Nude  but there are so many to choose from, you really will be spoilt for choice.images of rugs

Rugs for days...

The kids now enjoy using it to tip out their entire collection of lego on to and I'm happy to report that there’s been no slips or mishaps, even when it’s used for the ‘acrobatics’ show they enjoy performing for us on a Saturday evening.

And the ‘Ribena’ accident was swiftly swept under the carpet (pardon the pun) thanks to a quick 30 degree cycle, which left everyone feeling happy again, not to mention more than a little relieved.

Incidentally, Lorena also has the most mesmerising collection of kids rugs featuring lots of fun shapes, sizes and a multitude of designs.

Here’s my top picks for an inspiring kids room interior:images of rugs

You can browse the whole collection to your heart's desire.

If cotton isn’t your bag and you’re looking for other types of floor coverings, there are some amazing Jute styles out there. With a bohemian edge, 70’s revival makes an elegant comeback with these retro lovelies. This would give any room a truly laid back look.

Take a peek. Here’s a few for starters.image of jute rugs

So, it’s rugs all round for me. I’ve finally found a way to embrace my inner zen and absorb some of that Scandi inspired slow, relaxed living - even if it means I have to share it with the rest of the family.

Preparing for a new arrival?

If you love the element of surprise and prefer to keep your gender reveal for the ‘Big Day’ or would like a space that’s less defined, then a gender neutral nursery theme could be the answer to your planning woes.

With so many beautiful options for nursery interiors out there, it can be somewhat of a minefield. Especially when there are so many other things to organise and plan, as expectant parents.

We've come to save the day with our top styling tips and long lasting love affair of all things neutral.

Get Roomy

Take a good look at the intended room before you start. Take in the shape, position, window and door placement and any features it may have such as beams or a fireplace, for example. This will all help you plan the space in the right way. You don’t want to rush out and buy a cot for instance, only to discover it simply won’t fit. Also, you will want to be mindful about heat sources such as radiators. It’s an obvious one, but you’ll want to avoid concealing these with any furniture items or placing your babes bed directly next to it.

Image of white room and fireplace feature

If you’re lucky enough to have a space like this inspirational room from @lukearthurwells, you can make the most of any existing features as demonstrated so beautifully here.

Pale and Interesting

When choosing paint, the trick is to start with a blank canvas.  White/pale walls are a must. Don’t be scared. As we’ve said before, wipe clean paints are a parenting saviour and are readily available. Try B&Q’s interior emulsion  - their extensive range is super affordable and hard wearing too. Valspar is also worth a mention here. They offer a nifty paint mixing service and promise to create any colour the eye can see. That’s a lot of options. 2.2 million to be precise!

If you’re looking for more of an investment, then go for Farrow and Ball. They have so many beautiful neutral shades to choose from. Plus, all of their paints are produced using eco-friendly formulas for added peace of mind. You can read more about their sustainability here.

But white is white, right? I hear you say?. Wrong. Just take a look! Who knew?Image of white paint colours

Don’t be overwhelmed. Pick the options you love best and test them out at home, preferably in natural light so you can really get a feel.

If you need more colour inspo, those clever folk over at Farrow & Ball have also created a Nordic inspired paint collection. Full of stunning shades to choose from, for an instant Scandi look - genius!

We’d recommend painting the nursery a good few months before introducing your little bundle to it, to give it plenty of time to dry out and ventilate the room well.

White is always a winner in our book and it’s the easiest palette to add other colours to, if you fancy a spruce up somewhere down the line.

Other neutral colour options include browns, which I appreciate can seem a little daunting, but bear with us here. Mix it with rust and dusk hues and you’ve got a room made in Scandi heaven. Just take a look at this amazing set up for some inspiration.

See what we mean?  So warm and inviting, yet still neutral.

Grey is another perfect choice. So calming, which after all is the whole idea for a nursery. And the monochrome trend still rules supreme here too. Plus it’s so easy to create. It’s also perfect for introducing another colour to later down the line.

Style Heroes

With the walls all sorted, let's turn to furniture. Incorporating whites, greys and wood are all great ways to give your nursery that modern, timeless feel. Longevity is also key here. Beautiful Scandinavian brand Oliver Furniture creates the most stunning cots, that are designed to grow with your little one.  This cot bed of dreams is one of our faves.

They also have the most elegant coordinating furniture pieces, from change tables to dressers and wardrobes in solid oak. All intentionally made and built to last, to transcend generations.

Shop the whole look to your hearts content

With the cot being the main feature, pick one that makes the right statement to what you are trying to achieve. So, sleek and pale with soft curves and clean lines work well for a modern look. Or choose warm wood tones and natural rattan for a more bohemian vibe.

Look at this simply breathtaking Lola rattan crib from Bermbach. What a swoon fest.

baby in a rattan crib

And this striking cot bed in mint from Sebra, gives us all the feels. What a showstopper.

image of baby cot in pale grey

Bloomingville is another gorgeous brand that we can’t get enough of right now. Their laid back Scandi boho spirit is so en vogue and it’s easy to see why. With nostalgic, considered  pieces made from natural cane that instantly transport you to sunnier climes.

We especially love the Jubbe Lounge Chair ,which makes a tres chic nursing spot, and how about this Douve Wooden Bookstand, which looks equally at home in the living room or hallway as it does in the nursery. A wonderful investment and the perfect example of how furniture can be upcycled and repurposed for many years to come.

Interior Appeal

Introducing accents into a neutral space is always a good idea and you can add in pops of colour with cute accessories and soft furnishings once your little one is born.

Like this total stunner of a room, just for example.

Let’s talk about canopies for just a sec. These days you’ll be hard pushed to find a nursery interior look without one. And for good reason. They look beautiful, of course, but they also make a welcoming cocoon like space for a new addition as well as a wonderful play corner or reading nook as your little one grows.

Don’t forget that canopies hung above the cot should be removed as your baby becomes mobile and always read the manufacturer's guidelines and safety advice for the canopy you choose.

Take your pick from these beauties for starters:

Hang it Up

Adding hanging art, decals and even wall rugs will elevate any space and add interest.

There’s so much choice when it comes to wall art, so let’s take the hard work out of it with our top picks for a neutral theme. First up, these pretty prints from  pretty in print art.  From jungle to space and typography, it’s all here. Pick a theme and hang them in a pattern.

And who doesn’t love a rainbow? OYOY’s iconic design certainly doesn’t disappoint in the form of this absolutely amazing hanging wall rug. It will be sure to brighten up any space and certainly leaves us beaming.

Magic Carpet

Rugs are a no brainer. They are genius at bringing that instantly cosy, feel good factor to the nursery.  We’re huge fans of Lorena Canals beautiful handmade beauties. There's a vast array to choose from and what’s more,  they are washable too, which is an absolute win with little ones around. Just pop them in the washing machine and they come out as good as new!

Jute rugs are another great option for a gender neutral space. Made of natural materials, they are hard wearing and practical and super stylish too, of course.shop stylish rugs | Jute rugs

Stylish Storage

image of storage baskets and rug

It’s no secret that we’ve always loved a basket and we’re still singing their praises. They are just so handy - ideal for rolling up muslin cloths, storing soft toys and housing bits and bobs, the list goes on.

Have a browse at these lovelies for starters.

These Ay Kasa crates are another storage saviour. Completely stackable, they fold away flat when not in use too. Choose from a kaleidoscope of cool shades ,in a multitude of sizes.

We hope this gives you some food for thought when planning for a new arrival. Go to it and enjoy creating your gender neutral nursery interior space.  For more inspiration, you can shop our full collection tailored to this theme.

Follow our guide to creating a simple and effective interior, with some creative ideas and clever hacks for a look that really is ‘out of this world’.

To boldly go…

The easiest way to add instant impact is to go for a colour scheme on the walls. Don’t be afraid to go bold - this will be the base for you to build on, so think ‘bigger picture’.

Paint colours such as dusky blue, navy, grey, muted red and - if you’re feeling brave - black, all work well. Plus, they hide a multitude of sins, like little hand prints, just for example. You don’t have to go the whole hog either -  painting one feature wall or just the bottom half of a wall is brilliantly effective too, as shown here.

We love a ‘theme’ room and this space interiors inspo is certainly no exception.Paint can be a bit of a minefield - there’s just so much choice. But, thankfully, DIY stores like good old B&Q have come to our rescue, with in-house mixing services and tester pots for you to take home and try out before you splash out! How to use the Valspar paint mixing service | Ideas & Advice (diy.com).

If you’re feeling flush, Farrow and Ball really do have some lovely options. Check out De Nimes No.299, or Light Blue No.22, as used in the above image. They have a whole section dedicated to children’s rooms on their site too. Very handy Children's Rooms (farrow-ball.com). And, it goes without saying that the quality really is second to none.

With mucky little hands around, paint durability is key. It’s a kids room after all. So, waterproof and wipe clean are always a good option and may save you from a regular ‘re-paint’/touching up the wall job.

If you're finding the vast choice of paint colours overwhelming, we have listed our favourite brands and shades below - all of these paints coordinate beautifully with our space themed collection - whether you're painting them on the wall, creating an IKEA hack or up-cylcing an old piece of furniture:
