Time to Travel

Stuck in a holiday rut? Too afraid to take off for adventure with little ones in tow? Then fear not as help is most definitely at hand.

It’s Tiny Travelship to the rescue.  Run by two mums in the know, this rather wonderful, independent travel company is taking family holidays to the next level - with handpicked, parent pleasing picks that cater for little ones too.

Read on for their round up of the top, tried and tested destinations across Europe to try this summer and beyond.

 Tiny Adventures

Hi there. At Tiny Travelship we’re here to prove that your love of travel is one thing you do not need to sacrifice with a babe in tow.

From a Spanish sanctuary with hands on help, to a design-led holistic hideaway in Crete and a boho beach club in Greece, parents are spoilt for choice this summer with fabulous holidays, guaranteed to delight the whole family.

Whether you’re looking for fully fledged facilities and 5* services, or stylish self-catering stays, Tiny Travelship has you covered with recommendations for every age and stage.

Whilst we can always find an excuse for a holiday, a postnatal pampering getaway is a near essential in our books. There will definitely come a stage when you need to factor in your tiny traveller’s needs and requirements (especially when they start to vocalise them), but for now, focus on YOU. Work out what you actually need for an enjoyable holiday. If in actuality it’s just somewhere for your baby to sleep, have a bath and sterilise your bottles, the world really is still your oyster.

 Caserio del Mirador

For the tiniest of travellers, a helping hand can be a lot more useful than fully fledged family facilities. Parents themselves, the hosts of Caserio del Mirador - a family run Spanish sanctuary - excel at nailing the needs of mums, dads and children. Kids are more than well catered for with a pool, trampoline, sandpit, dressing up and animals to befriend, but it’s the fairy godmother-like service that really sets Caserio del Mirador apart; transforming a trip into an actual relaxing break for weary parents. The self catering apartments provide much needed space (we all know babies do not travel light), and this, combined with hotel services makes for a truly unique home from home experience. Breakfast is delivered to your room each morning, whilst dinner dishes up a veritable mediterranean feast, freshly cooked for you by the owners themselves. In a stroke of genius, all apartments are within baby monitor (which are handily provided) range of the communal outdoor dining space, and an early tea is put on for tiny tummies. All parents know what a luxury it is to be able to eat with two hands and your attention fully on your dinner date, but the spoiling treatment doesn't stop there - well-deserved massages and facials can be arranged for adults, whilst tots are kept entertained by the baby-whisperer-like hosts.

Daios Cove

For life in the lap of luxury check into Crete’s Daios Cove, a 5* hotel reinventing the traditional All Inclusive. With a wealth of wellness treatments on offer at the world-class spa, to-fly-for fine dining and an insta iconic pool, at first glance you’d be forgiven for thinking this Grecian getaway was adults-only, but that’s far from the case. Daios Cove is impeccably designed for travellers big and small who enjoy the finer things in life. Unlike at a lot of hotels, the crèche at Daios Cove welcomes tiny travellers from as young as 4 months and parents are never made to feel out of place in the serene surroundings. You can't go wrong with room choice at Daios Cove, with even the entry level rooms boasting open plan living spaces, blissfully private balconies and bathtubs (all music to parent’s ears). Families will love the villas, which come pre-prepared with all parental paraphernalia you could possibly need (freeing up more room in the suitcase for you!). Opt for a room, suite or villa with a private pool for the golden sunbathing mama: snoozing baby, monitor stretch. Guests of the villas and suites benefit from the all inclusive residents club package and the gastronomic dining cannot be praised highly enough.

If your Tiny Traveller is in their own room at home, it can be helpful to look for places with separate sleeping spaces. There’s nothing worse than being a prisoner to your baby’s naps on holiday. This doesn’t need to be a suite with a second bedroom, you can make a nursery out of a walk-in wardrobe or even a super large bathroom. Access to kitchens can also be a godsend for weaning. Homestays really come into their own for this age group.

Le Mas des Oules

Picture the scene: you’re sunbathing by a glistening pool in sweetly scented surrounds, rosé in hand, whilst your tiny traveller is peacefully napping inside your delightfully decorated apartment a short baby monitor stretch away. Daydreams become reality at Le Mas Des Oules, a former farm and winery that has been lovingly transformed into 8 tres chic (and affordable) self catering stays in Provence. Contemporary décor and traditional farmhouse fixtures compliment each other on the inside, where you’re treated to exposed beams, calming interiors and all your creature comforts - including fully equipped kitchens and plenty of room (not just in the bedroom) for the cot. Outside the serene stone walls you’ll find a fenced infinity pool, giant chess board, pétanque court and plenty of outdoor space, shared with farmyard animals for tiny travellers to befriend. A baker visits every day with freshly made baguettes, croissants and pain au chocolat – c’est délicieux!

 Martinhal Sagres

On a picturesque, private, sandy beach on the western tip of the Algarve, Martinhal Sagres is the definition of a family holiday without compromise. This is much more than your traditional family-focused hotel. Yes, the facilities are faultless, with 5 Kids Clubs welcoming tots to teens, daily football and watersports aplenty, but the real magic of Martinhal Sagres lies in the attention to detail to parents as adults. A masterclass in design-led babyproofing, the decor manages to be sleek, contemporary and functional - think curved edges on tables and comfortable seating. The food is delicious for all ages, and each on-site restaurant has an activity corner where kids can colour in or read books, supervised by childminders. There’s a sanctuary-like spa, tennis courts and gym, plus babysitters can be arranged.  Whether you’re looking for an ocean view suite or spacious self-catering villa, there are a variety of room choices available. Make use of the genius baby concierge service for hassle free packing - you can pre-order anything and everything from nappies and toiletries to prams and carriers.

You’ve now reached the turning point when holidays need to start incorporating your tiny travellers needs a little more - especially when they start verbalising what they want! Look for places with plenty of on-site activities and space for little legs to roam.

Feuerstein Nature Family Resort

A parent pleasing spa hotel with 70 hours of complimentary childcare a week. Sound like the dream? Feuerstein Nature Family Resort, home to Europe’s first family spa, delivers a dose of bucolic bliss for all ages in the majestic mountains of South Tyrol in Italy. Complimentary childcare starts from newborn, and all you need to pack for your little ones is their clothes – everything else from nappies to nightlights are provided. Along with their own personal spa (complete with waterslides and saunas), tiny travellers are kept busy with a climbing wall and wood workshop, high ropes and hiking, plus pony rides and petting zoos. Parents won’t be disappointed by the delicious dining or wine tasting sessions either.

Casa Pineta

Tiny travellers are spoilt for entertainment choice inside and out at Casa Pineta - an impeccably designed 4 bed house steps from the shores of Elba Island’s Marina di Campo in Tuscany. Children are treated to a treasure trove of toys in their aesthetically pleasing playroom, plus there is a 7000 square foot playground a short stroll away, with trampolines, bouncy castles and electric cars for kids to ride. It can be hard to find beachfront holiday homes (hotels normally dominate sandy scenes), but Casa Pineta is steps from the crystal clear shores. Elba may not be the most well known beach break destination, but as the third largest Italian island (after Sicily and Sardinia), it’s one we highly recommend. There’s a beach for all tastes; from tiny coves and  long stretches to sugar white sands or striking black pebbles. Summer holidays aside, it’s also the perfect destination for some out of season sunshine. Make the most of not yet being tied to school holidays and hot foot it over to Casa Pineta in May or October for balmy temperatures and cheaper prices.

The terrible twos aside, parents can rejoice that tiny travellers are now welcomed into a lot more kids clubs - hello some adult only alone time. Gone are the days of zoned out or overstimulated children watching a singing mascot, hotels have really upped their game recently with nursery-level offerings designed to educate and inspire.

Cretan Malia Park

As you would expect from a member of Design Hotels, Cretan Malia Park takes aesthetically pleasing to a whole new level, with enviable interiors stretching to the eco-aware Kids Club. The curated programme of activities include cookery lessons, using vegetables picked from the mini organic garden, and an environmental space designed to spark conversations and little imaginations. The heavenly decor continues in the breezy, beautiful suites and bungalows, boasting plant prints, rattan furniture, geometric tiles and copper elements. Outside, there’s plenty of shallow splash-friendly sections for children in the riverstyle main pool and closeby sumptuous sun loungers for adults and snoozing babies. Families who stay here tend to be very like minded; parents seeking a relaxing holiday big on style who make sure their children are on their best behaviour. As such the ambience is surprisingly peaceful for somewhere with so many tiny travellers in tow.

The Peligoni Club

Combining the privacy and space of villa living with the amenities of a 5* resort, The Peligoni Club in Greece expertly caters for those who care about style, sublime sustenance and chic childcare. The expertly run crèche starts from 4 months old, and is supported with an impressive roster of activities for all ages from tots to teens. Things are done a little differently at Peligoni. There’s no accommodation on-site, instead guests choose from a range of serviced villas surrounding the club. This is no copy + paste job. Individually owned, all of the villas are different in character. There’s something to suit everyone’s aesthetic taste, from the architecturally striking to the romantic, charming and authentic.

Holiday season is here.  Hurray to sunny days, out of office mode and precious time spent away with loved ones.

If, like us, you have a serious case of wanderlust, there’s no reason why the pitter patter of tiny feet and a growing family should prevent a sojourn to faraway climes, or even somewhere a little closer to home.

Daunting though it may seem at first, travelling with young ones is perfectly possible. With a little more planning and some insider know-how, adventure awaits for a family getaway to remember.

New Adventures

We spoke to some of our favourite influencers with young families, to get the lowdown on how they plan for a trip away with little ones in tow.

Read on for some top tips and must have travel picks that make holidaying with little ones plane sailing.

Jet Setters

The lovely Vogue Williams, presenter, model and influencer, has just returned from a wonderful Easter break in Portugal with her gorgeous young brood. With 3 children under 5, we asked for her top picks for making travel easier with little ones. Top of the list are these adorable Hello Hossy backpacks which she fills up with toys to entertain them on long journeys.

Vogue is a huge fan of the iconic Bre Sandals, which she buys for her kiddies every year.  Sweet, stylish, squishable and waterproof too, these perfectly packable beauties are made for mini summer adventures.

A sun hat is also a must and these lovelies from Liewood come with clever, built UV protection for added parent peace of mind. Last but not least, a swimsuit that ticks all the boxes, plus this gorgeous ‘Gigi’ Swimsuit from Liewood is a surefire winner, as it shares the same name as Vogue’s young daughter.

Happy Travels

The Travelling Gays have continued to embrace their love of exploring the world since the arrival of their young daughter.

They shared some amazing tips and must have products that make getting away a whole lot easier with an on the go toddler, plus some rather exciting travel plans.

“Our biggest travel plans this year are heading to the USA for the birth of our twins in the summer!  We are so excited and can't believe we are going to be a family of 5.

Our top travel hack would be to try to book the back row of a plane if at all possible.  It means you are closer to the toilet at the back for changing, have easy access to the back galley for settling any upsets or tantrums, and it offers a little more privacy from any judging eyes.

In terms of ‘must have’ travel essentials, our top 3 would be:

  1. The Doona Liki Trike which we have found perfect for getting a toddler round the airport.  Arya prefers it than being in a pram and it makes getting around fun for her - plus it’s nice and compact and easy to fold up into a rucksack.
  2. Little Dutch Soft Activity Book as it keeps our daughter entertained and she loves to look at books and feel the textures, plus it’s nice and easy to pack.
  3. A decent nappy bag is an absolute must - something like the Liewood Menza Nursery Bag with all the different compartments, perfect to hold essentials like bottles and a change of clothes.

Holiday Road Trip

Next up, Chloe from @chloeuberkid  lets us in on her adventurous plans with her six children. (For some seriously swoon worthy interiors inspo, be sure to check out Chloe’s IG page).

“This year we have decided to really go a bit further out of our comfort zone! I am scared of flying so we travel everywhere by car and having had a baby with us for so many years we have seen a lot of France. We have ventured to the Balearics, Spain and Andorra but I really wanted to give the kids some more cultural experiences.

Two of my sons are really interested in the Romans, so this Easter break we drove around Italy stopping in Germany, up through the Dolomites, down to Venice, Rome, Sorrento  Pompei, Capri, Tuscany, Florence, Pisa and back through the lakes and Switzerland!

We would like to see Norway, Denmark and Sweden before the end of the year and are already planning a route through Spain to Morocco and back through Portugal for next spring!

Chloe's Top Travel Essentials

  1. Avery Row Packing Pouches

“I can't live without these and always plan their clothes so I have a bag for every day packed with a full outfit for each of the kids…”

2. Floss and Rock Magnetic Play Scene

“I love these for car journeys…”

 3. Liewood Towels

“They fold up so small and dry so easily! We use these all the time…”

4. Liewood Ponchos:

“These are great and can also double up as an outfit for little ones…”

  5. Liewood Swim Ring:

“I always pack our inflatables ready as the kids tend to want to jump in a pool or the sea the second we see it!”

And, with so many little ones to entertain, we asked Chloe for her top travel tips for those long car journeys.

“I'm not sure you can ever make driving for up to twelve hours at a time with kids a fully relaxed experience but definitely all technology and snacks rules go out the window!

I always have their favourite apps ready and download their favourite films and don't stress about whether they have had too much screen time.

I like to over pack the car with lots of long lasting food, fruit slurpers, brooches etc. ( always keeping in mind to go for food that doesn't stain... no tomato soup or chocolate milk). It turns out they can never actually have enough food and drink ( although don't go overboard on the drinks otherwise there will be plenty of bathroom stops too).  My kids don't normally eat sweets that often, so a long journey is definitely a time to surprise them with a mini sucking lolly or pack of fizzy sweets!

I keep the kids up later than normal and have quite an active day before travel. Then, with an early wake up, they are all ready for a long nap on the journey.

Be ready to play some games! A fun kids quiz book or question prompter. Go around the family each saying something with a letter of the alphabet in order, so animals ( aardvark, bear, cat) boys names etc.. My kids also love "who can guess my favourite...( chocolate, breakfast cereal etc)".  It is surprising how many times you can play the same game without kids remembering all the answers”.

When we are driving long distances like 500 miles, we all get majorly excited for the last 100 miles and then celebrate every ten with major cheering! It keeps the kids involved and alert to take in the scenery.

And, my absolute favourite travel tip with kids is more about me and easing up my workload... I take my packing and outfit planning very seriously! Every day of the holiday has an Avery Row bag packed with all of our outfits, completely colour coordinated so that it will go in the same washing load. We tend to stay in Airbnbs as it is incredibly hard to find hotels that will fit us all in with six kids  (not to mention very expensive), but the advantage is that if there is a washing machine I can wash all their outfits with minimum effort -  ready for another day or even to pack away ready to go home.

So there you have it. We hope this little read has inspired you to take the trip and be brave to adventure far and wide with your intrepid explorers.  It’s time to create happy childhood memories to last.

Our travel edit is ready and waiting to be explored, whatever your destination. Whether its a winter retreat or a sunny adventure you're planning, we have everything to kit out mini jet setters and keep them entertained, wherever you choose to roam.

Bright lights, big city! Is there anywhere more exciting than the UK’s capital at Christmas time? Why not take your little adventurers along on a trip to London and soak up the festivities, with our fun guide to what’s on for free, during the most wonderful time of the year.

Southbank put on a Winter Festival between November 3rd and January 8th, complete with beautifully illuminated trees all along Queens Walk. Take a stroll right next to the river Thames and take in the sights and sounds of the Christmas markets, a series of wooden clad chalets decked in twinkling lights. Best seen after dark, this enchanting walk will also treat you to some of London’s most iconic sights including Big Ben and The London Eye. Look out for free entertainment in the form of the infamous bubble man, music, DJ’s art sessions and cosy community lounge.

Take a nighttime trip down Oxford Street - a sight to behold, these spectacular illuminations certainly light up this iconic London shopping street. With so many flagship stores along this stretch, you will also be treated to some magnificent window displays, all trimmed up with festive themes.

Hyde Park's famous fair returns for another year between the 18th November 2022 and the 2nd January 2023. From ‘ride if you dare’ attractions, spectacular shows, Santaland and tempting seasonal food and drink, there’s something on offer for all ages. Whilst there is a charge for these add-on attractions, did you know that if you book an ‘off peak’ ticket then entry is absolutely free. So, if you’re not a hardcore Thrillseeker, you can simply take a stroll through this wonderful wonderland and soak up the atmosphere for absolutely nothing.  Remember, as this is a ticketed entry, all tickets must be pre booked online in advance - even the free off-peak tickets.

Get some good gift ideas for letter writing to Santa and make sure they earn a place on the nice list with a walk around Selfridges magical toy shop, set on level 4 of this world-famous department store, where you will be greeted by life sized toy soldiers. Serve up a good old slice of nostalgia with the giant ‘dance-on piano’ (anyone remember the scene from 80’s movie Big?), a fun interactive experience that everyone will enjoy. There’s also a child sized toy rocket ship immersive experience to discover as well as a giant clock tower that comes alive on the hour with music, animated soldiers and working gears and cogs.

Wishing for a white Christmas? Then don’t despair. Covent Garden is making dreams come true in the run up to the festivities with a daily snowfall display that’s not only completely enchanting, but sustainable too. Head to the stunning, pedestrianised Piazza, also home to 115,000 twinkling lights and London’s largest hand-picked Christmas tree, for a flurry of snowfall every hour between 12pm and 9pm, up until the 31st December.

We hope you enjoyed this little guide and have fun enjoying the festivities on offer, whatever your plans this season.

Don’t forget, our handpicked Christmas collection is available to shop online - bursting with festive magic to inspire. Discover beautiful, Scandinavian inspired toys with a planet friendly focus, to stunning seasonal decor and homeware that will set the scene for an unforgettable season of joy and Goodwill.

We’ve got you covered for baby’s first Christmas, tempting treats for toddlers and surprises for older kids too. Not forgetting gifts for Mama, new parenting essentials and gender-neutral goodies too.

Season's Greetings,

The Scandiborn Family

A city break.  With tiny travellers on board? Oui, it can be done. Our Head of Content, Caroline Brooks, takes us on a journey to Paris and proves that taking the kids along for the ride can make for a thoroughly enjoyable adventure to remember.  Plus, tick off all those travel essentials with our handy packing list.

Get on Board

After a two year holiday drought, given the recent global pandemic, we decided to renew our suppressed wanderlust and sojourn to Paris, on a 4 day family escape over the Easter holiday break.

We chose to travel by Eurostar, which we found to be a wonderfully stress free and enjoyable experience. With very little queuing, a comfortable passenger lounge and just over 2 (very relaxing) hours of travel, we found ourselves in the heart of the ‘City of Love’ with our two kids in tow.

We were booked in at the Novotel Paris Belleville 20. Recently opened with clean, modern, and surprisingly spacious family rooms (a rarity in this city), it provided the perfect base for us to begin our holiday. Ideally located right across from the metro station, it’s a little way out of the centre, so if you do have younger kids then I would probably recommend booking somewhere more central, so you can come and go more easily.

Paris Highlights

Paris has to be one of the best cities in the world for sightseeing, as there are just so many famous landmarks to discover. So, with romance firmly on the back burner, we set about making a list of everything we wanted to see.

For smaller kids and tiny tots who tire easily, the sightseeing bus tours provide a perfect option to hop on and off and visit all the trop attractions. Plus which kids don't love an open top bus ride.

Let’s start with the most obvious - The Eiffel Tower. Thankfully the lifts are both pram and pushchair friendly, so even the smallest of babes can travel to the very top and check out those stunning views (or maybe just take a nap).

Not for the faint hearted, those with vertigo may get their sea legs even from the first floor. I would recommend taking the lift over the stairs, especially with small ones, as they are open and quite precarious. It’s advisable to book tickets in advance too. We booked ours online direct. Early mornings tend to be less busy, plus if you happen to be up at the break of dawn with youngsters, then watching a sunrise over the Eiffel Tower is quite a sight to behold.

Art galleries (while definitely not my son's favourite) are a good option to while away a few hours on a rainy day or if caught in a sudden downpour.

The Mona Lisa is a no-brainer (be prepared to queue to get a close up view) and little culture vultures will wonder and marvel at the sheer size and grandeur of the Louvre. Book your tickets direct online in advance as they operate a really effective system where you enter at your given time slot, thus avoiding long queues and preventing any fallout from bored kids. Plus, entry is free for all under 18’s - bonus. Mornings are often quieter and the renowned Louvre Café makes for the perfect spot to fuel up on delicious breakfasts in a grandoise setting.

Our favourite gallery has to be the Musee D’Orsay. With thousands of famous works of art at every turn, we were utterly bewitched and blown away by the Monet’s, Van Goghs and Rembrandts on display. The building itself is also completely stunning - housed in an old railway station and sympathetically restored.  Top tip: The café on the top floor is not to be missed, with its impressive clock tower window, complete with gorgeous city views and delicious cakes and pastries to tempt tiny taste buds, over a well deserved rest.

Walk This Way

Paris is a wonderful walking city, with plenty of parks and green space on offer. Perhaps the most famous is the Jardin du Luxembourg, dotted with water features, statues and those instagrammable green chairs. Pack a picnic, take a pew and embrace the French culture by introducing the kids to a game of boules.

Take a Seine-side stroll and discover climbing frames, balance bars and stepping stones to keep little ones entertained. We took the river path (pushchair friendly) from the Louvre, all the way to Notre Dam and the islands. Full of pretty Parisian side streets made for wandering and window shopping and home to the world famous ice cream shop Berthillon. The oldest in Paris, it is a must visit, with a vast selection of unique flavours on offer. A good bribe, erm I mean reward, after all that walking. Budding captains will love to hop on board a boat cruise as you venture back up river.

For people watching and cafe culture, an afternoon in the picturesque neighbourhood of Montmartre is hard to beat.  Take the funicular railway to the top of the Sacre Coeur, an impressive church residing high above on the hillside, with a beautiful bird's eye view of the city scape. There are plenty of companies offering child friendly walking tours, taking in the artists quarter, windmills and vineyard, whilst sharing interesting stories and entertaining the kids with various activities along the way.

Food, Glorious Food

As the gastronomic centre of the universe, my kids  were most excited about trying out the various cuisines on offer (though perhaps not quite as enthusiastic at the prospect of snails and frog legs).  You will find creperie stands dotted all over the city, with tempting fillings such as Nutella, sugar or savoury ham and cheese. A quick and cheap snack to fill those hungry little tummies whilst on the go.

Little sweet tooths (and grown ups too) should visit Laduree to sample the finest macaroons you will ever taste. This Parisian institution offers all the wow factor with its iconic, flamboyant surroundings and sumptuous décor. There are several dotted across Paris, with the flagship store located on the infamous Champs Elysees.

Paris is very welcoming of kids when dining out. We found several super child friendly eateries during our stay. Frame Brasserie is definitely a special occasion place. With stunning views of the Eiffel Tower, this glass built eatery specialises in local flavours, with much of the produce grown in the restaurant's very own on site organic vegetable garden.

La Boite aux Lettres is located in pretty Montematre and is a real germ of a place. Bustling with locals, this non-touristy haven gave us the entire lower floor all to ourselves, Housed in a quirky setting within their wine cellar, complete with an 'old skool' Nintendo games console to keep the kids busy whilst we savoured a bottle of French white from their extensive menu. There was no set kids menu as such, but they were very accommodating and happy to provide smaller plates for younger diners.
